Oh Christmas Tree, no needles to bother me ....... |
Usually I take my tree down on New Years Day, it has become something of a tradition that the man in my life and I have followed for the past twenty years. But this year I thought I would leave it up, perhaps even until January twelfth. Several of my friends have not visited and I am anxious to show off this tree.
I switched from a live tree to an artificial some years ago due to my allergies. Then graduated to a prelit, and a few years ago purchased an eight foot prelit. However....when the tree emerged from it's special hockey type bag ( yes I had one of those), it's top was broken. I had been ambivalent towards said tree in the time leading up to Christmas and this was my excuse to make a change.
By the next day I had purchased two nice eight foot branches, I have high ceilings, and adorned those branches with my collection of turquoise and chartreuse ornaments. The main branches were strung with mini lights and ..I loved it. I have enjoyed my tree this holiday season and my enjoyment continued today as I removed the trimmings.
I started the turquoise and chartreuse scheme four years ago. My children were away from home and I could not bear to use "our" familiar ornaments or ones from my angel collection.
The man had helped me remove my ornaments and they were laid out on the coffee table. There are the twelve turquoise balls with feathers which I found marked down at Superstore. And my most expensive; a delicate, chartreuse blown glass sphere measuring over a foot long. There are about one hundred, all varied and each with a story.
I packed them in their containers, wrapped them in tissue, nestled them away in their special tote. The months will fly and all too soon I shall be lifting them up to grace another branch. And yes, it will be a birch branch - who said Christmas trees had to be evergreen? If so - no one asked me!
Love your themed birch tree and especially the stunning ornaments! For leaving up the tree the longest I have you beat. I left my beautiful "Princess Tree" up for four years - You just take the hair blower to it!!!!! I turned the lights on as often as I wish and loved every minute of it.
ReplyDeleteThat tree was truly beautiful - just like you would think a princess tree would be. Precious and beautiful ornaments - each with its special story. Then there were gold ornaments and rose, gold beads. Then 1" wide whispy ribbon, and lots of soft greens. There were soft pink, white and burgandy/rose pointsettas To top it off there was a 2.5" glorious soft pink ribbon edged in gold all the way around - top to bottom.
I never did count the # of items on the tree but it was a whole day procedure for up or down!
This year I did not even take it out. Thought about it but never could quite get into it.
I have also down sized my tree thoughts and have purchased a 4'stunning white table top tree
from Country Treasures - sitting in a lovely white base with a romantic silver spray that goes around the base and can you imagine a darling silver bird nest with three itty bitty eggs!
I am now weeding through my ornaments deciding on what I will keep and what I will part with.
AND that's my story and I am sticking to it!
Hey that is a good blog line............
